About Me

I'm Saffron Wiehl and I am born and bred in India, Goa. I am of a mixed European and Asian ethnicity but have lived my whole life in India where I spent 8 years at Kodaikanal International School and then went on to study illustration in Australia. I grew up surrounded by nature with a garden that resembles a Goan jungle and beautiful beaches on my doorstep. My illustrations are all inspired by my love for nature and the unique culture of India that I am surrounded by every day. I did an illustration course at Chisholm Institute in Melbourne for 3 years which I loved but once it was finished I came back to my roots in Goa to try and make a career of it all.

Goa is very seasonal with 6 months of guaranteed sunshine and 4 months of guaranteed rain. I find the contrast in these seasons a massive inspiration for the colours in my work from the sunset shades to the monsoon greens which I spend hours creating with watercolours. My love for colour falls alongside my love for intricate patterns and detail which are present in all my work. For me happiness comes in the form of a fine liner and a watercolor set.

I am lucky enough to have a Goan-jungle-facing art studio in my house where all the artistic magic happens.

I sell both originals and prints from my studio where customers are more than welcome to come and have a look. So if you find yourself in Arpora, Goa, come say hi!

I am now exploring my artistic options through the creation of a small collection of 100% silk scarves as well as a few other projects in the pipeline. I also offer exclusive personalised commissions for anyone who may want to adapt a piece of my work or just wants something completely new.
